In Nancy Shaw’s Sheep in a Jeep, a flock of sheep drive a jeep. The sheep go up a hill, but the jeep stops working. The sheep push the jeep a little to hard and it ends up in the mud. Then, they tug and shrug, yell for help, until finally, it goes! However, the driver sheep forgets to steer and the jeep crashes into a tree. At the end of this comical story, the sheep are selling their jeep for cheap. This book is very basic, so I would have to recommend it for preschool or kindergarten students. This book would also lend itself very well for teaching students to make the long “e” sound in a very comical manner. I especially enjoyed the illustrations and the bright colors used throughout the story as well as the drawing techniques employed by Margot Apple.

Moses Parker Sheep in a Jeep sounds like it would be a lot of fun to read to the students and it would work when teaching students the long /E/ sound. I like using books to add to a lesson or unit that I'm teaching. I feel that children get the concept of the lesson when you add an additional resource to make the understanding of the lesson clear. Many of us are visual learners and what better way to teach something is when you have a visual aide like a picture book.
