Alex Adam's writing style is mesmerizing and beautiful. Even the most graphic and horrendous scenes in the book were poetic. And unlike most books that switch from past to present tense throughout the entire book, I thought it fit extremely well with the storyline. Usually that bugs me, but it was PERFECT in this book, and only added to the suspense and love story.

One cautious note to post-apocalyptic fans: This is nothing like YA novels. The writing and content is more mature, so it's very graphic in nature and might be too gruesome for some people. I never felt like the adult content was overdone or unnecessary, but it is definitely more to handle than YA novels.

That being said, it was fantastic and I loved it. I'm still unsure about the ending, and part of me feels like it was slightly anti-climactic compared to the rest of the book, and the twist seemed a little too forced and strange to me, but I still want to read the next two books in the series so it didn't turn me off completely. The writing alone was amazing enough to bring me back.

I definitely recommend this!
