That's really 3 1/2 stars from me.

What a hoot! And such a change of pace for McGuire, whose October Daye series is very dark.
This new series, of which Discount Armageddon is the first. is very light and amusing without slipping over into outright silly/stupid.
Think of it as Men in Black, but with a ballroom dance obsessed young woman as the lead and earth born non-humans(cryptids) instead of aliens from outer space. Verity Price is willing to hunt (and kill) the bad ghouls, etc who actively threaten humans, but considers herself the protector of the non-threatening non-humans. Verity is one kick-ass heroine with no super powers at all. Enter Dominic De Luca, agent for the Covenant (motto--the only good cryptid is a dead cryptid). He's a real hunk and a real threat to Verity. Watching him learn the error of his ways is a treat, and he comes through for Verity at the end.
The world building is fun (love the talking mice!), the various cryptids are interesting.

Can't wait for the next book!
