A very nice break from all the heavy-ish non-fiction I've been reading. Of course, it's historical fiction, which means that most of the events involved actually happened, so I'm not totally untethered from my non-fiction bias so far this year.

Great pace, good characters (though Macro and Cato definitely took a couple chapters for me to warm up to) and interesting storyline conceit to keep the characters in the thick of the historical action. If you like first-person epic historical fiction (e.g., Horatio Hornblower) this is one to add to your list.
