Grandin extensively researched both his main subject, the failed project Fordlandia, and its creator, auto industrialist Henry Ford. While some information about Ford is well know from other publications (e.g., his antisemitism, his anti-union stance and actions, his anti-war efforts), Grandin tries to link Ford's ideas and ideals to what made the Ford Motor Company a success in North American but a failure in South America. However, after reading the book, it's hard to say that Ford succeeded in perpetuating his "ideals" in either of the Americas.
