I loved this book. It's very long, but I learned so much. It's easy to think that our country fought a war with Great Britain for independence, won the war and then everything was great. Not so. The type of government we would have had to be hammered out, and John Adams was a huge part in this. His untiring work and integrity in service to our country -- at the expense of his own family life -- is quite remarkable. What a story we have because of the letters he and Abigail exchanged.

McCullough clearly loved John Adams, and after reading this book I do too. I watched the HBO series based on this book. It was good, but it couldn't convey the years that John Adams labored for this country, especially in other countries away from his family. But I thought the casting was exceptionally good for all the characters.
