Messy (Spoiled, #2)
by Heather Cocks, Jessica Morgan
by Heather Cocks, Jessica Morgan
I liked this SO MUCH MORE than Spoiled. My biggest issue with Spoiled was how it was actually about something kind of big and serious but it was buried in a bunch of Hollywood jokes. Also all the drama was telegraphed in, with the "foreshadowing" more like a bunch of spoilers for the chapters to come.
Not so with Messy, which was just lots of fun, the silly kind of Hollywood/high school, er, can-I-say-"romp"? I was looking for from the Fug Girls. Cocks and Morgan are SO GOOD at that stuff. They really are savvy about what's funny about the whole Hollywood machine but also clearly they kind of love it. (ME TOO.)
It doesn't hurt that most of the book is from Max's POV, and I freaking love Max. I was basically Max when I was her age. Also with the lighter subject matter, the heavier moments and times of introspection resonated more.
So probably I'd give this, like, three-and-a-half stars BUT I had so much fun reading it I'm going for four. WHY NOT? I make my own rules on GoodReads.
