really liked it
bookshelves: christian-living
Read from March 12 to April 24, 2012

This was an excellent book on a Christian's guide to reading. What I liked most about Reinke's book is the breadth it covers on reading. He establishes a theology of reading in the first half as a basis and then moves to practical applications for reading. I appreciated especially his sections on how a biblical Christian worldview equips us to benefit from books (Chapter 4), how to establish reading priorities (Chapter 7), and the importance of imagination to the Christian (Chapter 6). I also appreciated his section on reading and distraction (Chapter 11) and found it really helpful especially since I do feel like I have a bit of ADHD sometimes.

The section that challenged me most was the section on marking in books (Chapter 12). I still for the life of me don't feel like I can write in my books anymore. The main reasons being, if I want to give a book I read to someone or sell the book, there would be markings are over it. I keep a notebook where I write everything down with page references so that I don't have to write directly on each book I read. Maybe it's also a bit of OCD I have. :P

For those wanting to get in there and set up a reading plan and priorities, I'd recommend reading this book first to help get a solid structure for you to enrich your reading life as you read God's Word, books that help you ponder Christ and reflect on the Christian life, and also stories that enliven our God-given imaginations. Go check it out!
