All in all an excellent addition to the Malazan series. In this novel ICE adopts a style much more reminiscent of Steven Erikson which is perhaps appropriate given that the plot is much closer to the events of the Book of the Fallen than ICE's previous offerings.

Having said that, I actually prefer his earlier works (in particular Return of the Crimson Guard) if only because they offered a nice counterpoint to Steven Erikson's novels which seemed much larger in scope and scale. All in all a must-read for all Malazan fans.
