By the time I read the last panel of The Walking Dead Volume 6: This Sorrowful Life, I heaved a huge sigh of relief. This one was intense. Kirkman comes up with more and more sick and disturbing ways to challenge his characters, all the while examining the finer points of human nature. Maybe the most interesting thing about this series is identifying with the characters, putting yourself in their shoes and wondering what you would do in their situation. Like Lori being pregnant in a zombie infested world gone totally insane or all the characters who have watched loved ones torn to pieces by said zombies. And what makes it so obvious that this is more than just a zombie story is the fact that it remains downright gripping page after page, volume after volume. The writing is still totally inventive and fresh. This is amazing stuff.
