This is a spinoff from one of Patterson's newest series. Readers are introduced to members of the Private investigation firm's London branch on the eve of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. It is also just in time for a new series of murders that seem centered around the games.

The first victim is a major organizer for this year's games and the soon-to-be father-in-law of Peter Knight, our hero. After having to tell his mother of her fiances death, Peter finds himself being drawn into an investigation of who might be killing all sorts of people related to the Olympics and why. On his side is a journalist named Karen Pope, who is hoping to make it big. She was just hoping to find an interesting story, but not necessarily one tied to so much darkness and death.

Peter is also being helped by the Met's Chief Inspector Elaine Pottersfield. Their relaitionship is quite rocky as she blames him for the death of her sister, who is also the mother of his two three-year-old twins. She died in childbirth after trying to do give birth at home.

This book reminded me a lot of the John Feinstein mystery books for teens in which the readers are pulled into a major sporting event that is overwhelmed by murder. There is no shortage of action, and the characters are interesting. I don't think this book is as strong as the original series, which was co-written with a different author. With that said, it is still a lot of fun and quite timely.
