it was amazing
bookshelves: children-s-lit

I love anything by Peg Kehret. She's a children's book author, but she writes amazingly suspenseful books that keep readers on the edges of their seats. This is great when you're trying to get reluctant readers to find a book they like. I also like that PK writes things about characters not usually mentioned in kids' books. Like, if you're abandoned in a forest, where and how do you go to the bathroom? She doesn't go into graphic detail or anything, but these are things she writes about that kids want to know! Also, sometimes her characters are selfish, or think mean things about people, or embarrass themselves without knowing it, but in an honest, childlike way, not in an evil way. I like that because the content of her books is "safe" for me to recommend even to third graders, but suspenseful and believable to keep kids interested.
