George is having problems being a new dad – he literally can’t touch his son. At the advice of his therapist he starts writing about when his dad died (he was 11). The story is told through a series of journals, mostly taking place in the past through the eyes of 11-year old George. After his dad’s death George is visited by a Friend in his dreams, and it quickly turns out that his Friend is better named as a demon or the Devil. He begins to unravel a story about how his dad really died and secrets about his mom and other family friends.

I found myself trying to rush through to the end to find out if it was all in George’s head or if he really was being tormented by a demon, but at the same time I was trying to slow down to make sure I didn’t miss any clues.

It was a good and easy read that drew me in instantly and kept my attention. The style was clean and not too ‘out there’ (this isn’t my usual genre) and I think it is just a great story. I picked it up after seeing rave reviews from several websites.

I can see this book being made into a movie...hopefully whoever makes it will keep the psychological thriller aspect and do the story justice.
