Brilliant, unhinged, desperately funny and sad. Set in a 1985 psychiatric ward, this novel tips its cap to Kafka with giant cockroaches and an ending that I found both whimsical and hopeful. For those who like their books to be what Kafka believed they should be: a hatchet to break the frozen sea within us.
