Deep Sky is the satisfying conclusion of author Patrick Lee's trilogy based on an intriguing sci-fi idea: a hole into the future that sends back devices with mind-boggling capabilities. Each book centers on the application of one of these artifacts and what I like about these novels is that the author really thinks through their implication and usage. Both the protagonists and antagonists are smart and thorough, so there is always a chess game dynamic going on, each side trying to think and act two or three steps ahead of the other.

The only reason I give this book a 3-star rating is that I found the villian to be one-dimensional, with no real effort made to explain why he is doing what he is doing and what he hopes to achieve.
