Another work you must read before you die if you wish to consider yourself well read. A true work of genius, Chaucer gathers a collections of "tales" told by pilgrims on their way to visit a religious shrine. They supposedly tell these tales to alleviate the boredom of the Medieval equivalent of the modern road trip. They are a vivid portrait of the full spectrum of the human condition.
