I was very tempted to give this five stars. I am absolutely looking forward to the next one. Great anticipation as it were. I may have mentioned falling in love with the characters in the last one, and that my need to compare it to the Dresden novels had lessened. I didn't once do the latter in this one (and the former is still true, but more so), and in fact the only time I thought about the two series in conjunction was when something else nudged it into my awareness (like noticing the fact that it says, by the author of The Dresden Files on the cover, as I was setting it aside). But, honestly, I can't give it five stars. It's engaging, great fun, a good read, but it lacks the oomph of Donaldson or Banks at their best. Call it a really strong four for heart.
