This second book in the series seems like the author is finding her stride. It deviates far enough from other similar genre books to stand alone. Her ideas venture from traditional vampire lore, with just enough of the traditional to ground the story. I know for this type of genre we have to disassociate, or set aside, our belief and acceptance of what is real, and in some cases I had to really stretch to be able to do so, but realize that this is because I am more familiar with traditional lore than what she presents. Although a little heavy in some of her descriptions, and some of the words she chooses to use seems like she is showcasing a large vocabulary, it works for the characters. There is enough mystery to her characters to keep me reading the series to find out what happens next.
