This was one of thousands (no doubt) books recommended to me by my mother over the years. I read it and thought that it was extremely well-written. Damn, it was pretty tragic, but strangely enough the slightly sad event at the end was probably the happiest event that could have happened to the protagonist, Agnes Dempster.

My mum recommended this book to me because it reminded her of me and my situation with a certain guy. But you can rest assured that *I* do not own a gun and am not that way inclined. :)
