The Proposal is a story about second chance in love. Lady Gwendoline Muir and Hugo Emes, Lord Trentham, both have been dealt with life's worst blow in their lives. Lady Gwendoline was married to a mental abusive marriage which her husband had dark mood swings as well as depression and which she lost her unborned child. After being burnt, Lady Gwendoline did not want to be married again.

Hugo, Lord Trentham, went to war and suffered a conscious of where the majority of his men died during the Napolean War. He survived unscratched and suffered a survivor guilt where he believed he should have died. Instead he was awarded a title and heroism. He didn't believe he deserved any happiness.

The story is also a love story of people from two different classes. Lady Gwendoline is from a blue blood and Hugo is from a middle-class who was awarded a title by the King. They both know that their relationship wouldn't work but they went and explore what life style they will be expecting.

I love the happy ever ending from The Proposal. I also love Hugo when he keep saying he will not court Lady Gwendoline and that he will not marry her. Yet as the readers know that both are attracted to each other.
