The premise of the story and the mystery surrounding the disease made the book extremely interesting, it was the reason I continued to read the book. However, the author's scientific explanation for why these things happened are not the strongest part of the story. The struggle for a meaningful life after the change and the affect it had on the relationship between the characters who left and stayed was a strong point. Through these struggles the characters were able to grow and develop, and this made the book enjoyable. Really in the end the only thing I disliked about the book was the ending. Many things were left unexplained, and this was a very disappointing way to end a book which was capable of so much more.
