Jane, Mark, Katherine, and Martha's summer was looking to be completely, horridly boring. But, when the siblings find a magic charm (that grants half of wishes), there is more than double the excitement they wanted. With such great power comes great responsibility, and in this case a dose quick-thinking and math too.

Half Magic's story and illustrations remind me of Roald Dahl - but are a little less dark. I was amused by the slapstick and was comforted by the what I would consider a classic, albeit old-fashioned, children's storyline where "boys know best", but adults know even better.

Edward Eager and his books weren't part of my childhood, but I can see by how much I'm enjoying them now, I would have enjoyed them then.
