In places, the prose was quite lovely, in others, it was choppy and uneven. I never could figure out if that was just lack of discipline (and lack of editing) or intentional. I really dislike present tense writing, and I saw no purpose to it in this book, plus the way it jumped in time, bringing two disparate streams of events closer until they met was challenging to follow (moreso, I think, because everything was in the present tense). So what could have been enjoyable was less so because of the writer's choices. Finally, I never quite believed the love story. I saw more connection and magic between outsiders like Bailey and Thiessen and the circus than I did between the two main characters who, after all, were the core of the love story. It was a great idea; the execution was lacking.
