I’m still addicted, but it’s lost a little of its magic. It took me till almost the very end of the book to nail down why. It has TONS OF ACTION and that usually keeps me HAPPY, HAPPY. But when Atticus is on the run, there is a lot mythology clue-ing in that has to happen. Everyone is after him and of course you need filled in on the suspect list and motives. I know this may even be heresy to speak of, but mythology makes me yawn. I can deal with doses, especially if it is kept simple, stupid. Hearne’s research and understanding is vast. He weaves it ALL in artfully. But I find that I kind of read over a lot of it, especially since a lot of the characters don’t resurface and a lot isn’t necessary for my enjoyment.

I enjoy the characters. Luckily, Granuaile and Oberon are next to Atticus all the way. The trifecta of awesome gave me joy while they bounced around in each other’s heads. But on the run, they didn’t get to interact much physically. It is obvious that Granuaile and Atticus are in love with each other. You have their thoughts and short, sporadic moments that make you a little gooey inside. I WANT MORE! There is some minor interaction with old characters. These I also enjoy, because I was invested in them from way back in Arizona.

In short, I miss the good old days when Atticus was settled. He had a few minor run ins with gods and had a little mystery to uncover. But he got to come home every night, drink some whisky and make me laugh and swoon simultaneously. HUNTED isn’t lacking in the quotable department. Lots of movie and book references to make me giggle, though there is kind of a darkness or sadness that hangs in the air. HUNTED may be a turning point book. Marking the ending of an era and a new hope for DRUID-kind.

With great struggle, comes great appreciation for the happy times.
