I don't really understand why a lot of people didn't like this book. this is my first elizabeth berg book and I loved it. yes, most of the characters were annoying; laura, caroline and their mother but when you come to think of it, these characters are the ones you mostly encounter in your life. anyone of them can be a reflection of yourself, your family or your friends which makes this story more believable. I loved how the story was told in Laura's point of view because oftentimes, in books about abuse, we always hear about the victim's story and less of the people around the victim and even less so of the abuser. I just hope people would dig deeper into this book and look beyond the "stories-from-unmentioned-people-in-the-book" side of it.
