I'll never look at the Brooklyn Bridge the same way again. David McCollough is the greatest social historian of our time. At no point is his writing dry or boring. I was hooked right in from the very first page. He goes into incredible depth into each person's life and you care so much for each of them.

In writing of the history of the Brooklyn Bridge, he is in fact giving you the history of New York in the late 18th century- the era of Boss Tweed and the many political machines in place. This is a facinating period in New York history, and I can't recommend this book enough.
