When you picked up a Nicholas Sparks novel, you must be ready to have your emotion stirred.
And it will get stirred, in my case, the feeling stays for days. Till date, the Notebook is still my most favorite Sparks' novel.
I understand that the story is written to make the readers feel symphatetic with the characters. But, in The Best of Me, one of the main character is written so unfairly sad. Everything about this character is sad. Just sad. I cant help myself wishing for at least one real happiness for this said character, anything, be it his childhood time, his teenage time, his current time... Anything, give me something real, so that I wont feel so sorry and bitter for this character.
The other character, though i could relate with, is just as sad and undecisive, though not as sadder as the other one.
I am a sucker for a happy ending. Or, at least, a closure that is so sweet even when it is not a happy one. I find it lack in The Best of Me.
Overall, still a good novel, and Sparks never fails to stir our deepest emotion.
