I'm not usually one for memoir so I had some resistance to this book. Maybe that's why it took me a little to get into it, but I got into it once things really got rolling. Strayed has a really god hand at blending the story between her inner world (both of the past and present) and her ordeal/experience. I do have to say that I did get appalled at how unprepared she was for a lot of things when she took off into this. It's her life and all, but some things just seemed frighteningly foolhardy. She did a lot to prepare, but should have done a lot more. She was definitely tough to pull through some of the things she did, but I think she got lucky on a few things. A little different luck and things could have gone much more like things did for Christopher McCandless. Of course, I can't say that such didn't add to the tension of the story. Regardless, the book was interesting and moving. I'm not much for memoir in general, but I did like this one.
