This won the 2012 Coretta Scott King Award, of course. Kadir Nelson's illustrations are always moving, and the narration of this story coordinates perfectly. I love the way he chose to use a grandmother figure to tell the story of blacks in America while telling the story of her family. Just gorgeous. Now if I could only figure out a way to get our library patrons in this mostly-white town to CHECK THIS OUT!!
