SO much potential for this story; sadly, the characters didn't feel fully fleshed out and the whole thing was very choppy. I ended it feeling unsatisfied. I want a plot that flows, a climax with a resolution...It felt like the whole debacle with Dean rescuing Nick from Carter was supposed to be the climax of the story, but it didn't really work for me. Sure, it was dramatic, but it needed more character development. What I *really* wanted to see as the climax was Nick's struggle to accept emotionally the need to move home to help out. It was sort of inevitable and hinted at in a very heavy-handed way throughout, but then when it finally happened Nick's entire emotional journey was over in about 2 pages. And Dean's...Oh, that boy needed more page-time!Strong but broken, the Carter thing was just an episode in his own personal soap opera, and that could have gone somewhere!
