I went in with pretty high expectations for this book. I love a good mystery and the cover and synopsis sold me on it. I did enjoy the writing style and I liked most of the characters, though some were on the one-dimensional side. Seattle and Japan were really brought to life as settings in the novel, and I thought there was a lot of attention to detail in the writing. For me, the actual mystery fell flat though. I kept trying to think of how the pieces of the puzzle would come together, but it turned out I was overthinking it, as the ending felt very simple - not in an "I can't believe I didn't think of that!" way, but more of a "Really? That's all there is to it after 350 pages of build-up?" way. It also felt like some loose ends either weren't tied up or were conveniently explained away. Despite this, Tokyo Heist was still a good read overall and I was kept interested throughout.
