A superbly written, insightful, frequently heartbreaking account of several people living in Annawadi, a slum settlement near the Mumbai airport that lies in the shadow of luxury hotels. In the midst of their abject poverty and squalor, the people Boo profiles tenaciously cling to ambition and hope for a better life. A remarkable story.
