The Last Theorem
by Arthur C. Clarke, Frederik Pohl

I probably should have given it two instead of three stars. Tells the story of a Ranjit, a math genius in Sri Lanka, and his attempt to solve Fermat's Last Theorem. He does in a dramatic setting that is described too breezily. The most of the book is a biography of Ranjit over the next decades, crossing with a story of some aliens. The story itself is strangely unmoving, as it trods ground both these authors have covered before, and sometimes even acknowledges that. Still, it's a breeze to read, and is a bit provocative, but both authors have written much, much better books than this.
