There were things I really liked -- Anna and Katy's relationship felt so real, intense, and honest -- and I liked the slow reveal of Anna's grief. But I found the writing to be weak, the threads not tied together well enough, and the condescending way the girls could treat each other outside of their romantic moments (seems weird since I liked their relationship on the whole, but there were aspects of it that grated on me, including the pet name Katy will not stop using for Anna).
The road trip felt like a convenience. It didn't work for me, even in the Kerouac context. The spirituality/god felt too heavy-handed, as well.
That said, I totally related to Anna on some levels when it came to dealing with emotion and feeling.
