The author takes the known name of a girl from a brothel in Arles, Rachel, and builds a entirely believable relationship between her and Vincent van Gogh. Enjoyable book. It could have been enhanced by color prints of van Gogh's works during that time, but I'm sure the cost would have been prohibitive, not to mention the copyrights, etc.

I consulted my "Van Gogh: The Complete Paintings" to provide a setting for the story, prints and paintings described in the book and enjoyed my foray into van Gogh's life and works.
