The children's book Esperanza Rising follows Esperanza, a young wealthy girl living on a plantation with her family, and her journey through losing a beloved family member and her life as she knows it. Although I felt this book had a wonderful message, (learning, as the grandmother says, to rising from the ashes like the phoenix, and begin anew when tragedy strikes) I found this book extremely frustrating to read. Knowing that Spanish has a different context for pronunciation, I knew that I was pronouncing the words incorrectly. Furthermore, there are points in the book where the Spanish is not translated into English after, so I had no idea what I was reading. Although, like I mentioned, this book has a wonderful message and I would love for my kids to read it, I don't think it was a "just right" book for me. :(
