The Stand is, without a doubt, Stephen Kings best work.
It is also one of my favorite books, and I've read it several times.

Who doesn't love a good end of the world story? Okay...maybe not everyone. But I do! And this is the best one out there.
The characters are SO well written and SO believable. I actually CARED about all of them, and about everything that happened to them. I find that to be increasingly rare in movies, television, and even books - and so I appreciate it all the more.

Another reviewer said "Hate me for saying it, but this is a modern day epic comparable to Moby Dick and The Odyssey. The characters are so well drawn that you truly mourn for the one's that are lost."
I completely agree.
And to all of those that made sure to mention that they read the "uncut" version...please.
