I think Stephanie Meyers writing improves in New Moon. I also think the story is more interesting - the addition of Quileute tribe added some much needed depth to the story.
I would have increased my rating from 3 stars to 4 for these reasons, except...
Bella is SO lame. Her breakdown is so overdone and so dragged out that it loses any reality it may have had in the begining. I had my heart broken at 18. It was heartbreaking - really. But Bella's reaction is ridiculous. The near comatose state, the constant clutching at her arms, as if to hold herself together...I think we could have grasped how upset she was without all the melodrama.
The passive aggressive way that she leads Jacob on is disturbing.
Her lack of strength or character is irritating. Her weakness is portrayed as a desireable quality, and that bothers me.

All that said...I ca't lie - I did enjoy this book.
