really liked it

A real deviation for Meg Cabot, but brilliantly done! I've been a huge fan of Cabot's since I was a preteen, and while her books can often be a little too fluffy, her more recent offerings have knocked it out of the park. I devoured Abandon in four hours - in a world where vampires and werewolves rule the YA shelves, a retelling of the Persephone myth was a breath of fresh air. I think I became particularly attached to this book because the main character, Pierce, reminded me a lot of my two favorite Cabot heroines, Jess from 1-800-Where-R-You and Suze from the Mediator books - a little tougher and more messed up than Cabot's stock protagonists. I feel like Abandon is a return to those series, in a way, and that thrills me, since they are by far my two favorite of Cabot's series.

A seriously welcome deviation from the usual paranormal romance fare (though it definitely falls into that category) - I absolutely can't wait to read the rest of the series!
