This book has gotten a ton of praise, but I didn't like it at all. It was very, very wordy and I didn't care about the miniaturists' big controversy over style, or about who murdered Elegant Effendi. A lot of the chapters, conversations, and descriptions felt entirely unnecessary. Shekure's story was the only one I could follow, since she was not a miniaturist, and I didn't like her at all.
