A stunningly beautiful historical novel set in eleventh-century Scotland incorperating Saxon history, which is really well written and a must read for any fan of this type of genre. The author includes a charicter list at the begining of the novel which is extremely helpful to the reader, as the storyline can become quite complex. Once the reader has grasped the main charicters then one can really enjoy the beauty of this story and the rich, colourful description within that takes you back to that particular era. Susan Fraser King has obviously spent much time on detailed research, as everything is very acurate and meticulously painted down to the very small detail. The emotive and romantic language sets as a backdrop to the exquisite plot, that is fast paced and interesting. After a few pages i really wanted to read more and delve into a past time, that was so facinating and new. Anyone interested in Mary Queen of Scots or Scottish history will be proud of Susan's acomplishment and any fan of historical reads will really love it too. I was able to really relate to the particular charicters within the novel and the main themes such as trust, love and deception which was exquisitly captured throughout.
