Today I have given up. This book is certainly an enigma of something. I started at the beginning (how silly of me, apparently its better to start at the second chapter) but half way though the second section I just couldn't bear it anymore.

I might come back to this book at some stage, it is beautifully written. And despite the lack of action there are parts that do sweep you along. But the repeated emphasis on the 'innocence/ignorance' of the young author seemed to be the major theme of the second section. In the absence of much actually going on, it became boring and I couldn't be bothered to read further. For now.
