This was a very interesting book although I found it a bit depressing. The world this book is set in seemed to me to be a Socialist version of Utopia. People only had to work if they wanted and everyone else lived off what the government gave them. I'm sure some people think this is a wonderful result to try for. For me it's just depressing. Then the book turns the vast majority of the world into pacifists without consent and the few that can't be converted are shunted off to islands to live in exile. Talk about the ultimate "the ends justify the means". So while I found the book interesting and engaging, I also found it sad...
