I had a love/ hate relationship with this novel from the cery beginning. It has to be one of the most vulgarly written books I have ever read, but given the horrid event that started it all it seems to be fitting. The Slap is a very easy read and the format it is written in, the telling of the story from different characters view points, keeps the story flowing. I found some of the pop culture references a little bit cringe worthy, felt that their use may have been trying a little bit hard to set the scene. Overall I enjoyed it, I'm happy I have read it so I can now talk about it. Having said that, I can see how many readers could claim they hated it.
