I'm honestly not 100% sure what I thought of this book. The story line was different, you don't often read about relatively recent experiences of the Chinese American working class, but it often left me wanting something deeper. Kimberly, the main character, really went through a great deal and I think the author handled showing them from a young girl's perspective. There were moments when I really enjoyed the book and moments when I just wanted to know how it ended. The slang and misunderstood English were interesting, but jolted me out of my reading reverie. That said, I did enjoy the ending and found it moving.

I think Goodreads recommended this book to me and I could never quite tell if it was a YA book or intended for an older audience. My gut tells me YA.
