Maybe Pym's novels are supposed to be cautionary tales about what happens to educated women in a world that fails to accommodate their talents or make a proper place for them. But I just find myself disgusted by how wretched and useless her characters are. She's certainly insightful regarding men of her time but that just makes it all the more difficult to read.
