Funny, irreverent, clever and unique, this novel surprised me in a lot of ways. First, it made me laugh out loud (which rarely happens to me while reading) and second, I found the character of Peter to be truly compelling, especially for an overweight thirteen year old sexually confused boy who talks to his body parts.

There's one part early on in the novel in which the narrator describes a mentally handicapped boy making out with a girl on the hill like "it was nobody's business." Instead of this being mildly offensive, Francis handles it with such tact that its both sweet & hilarious.

This book is different. It breaks the norm. I highly recommend it.
