I haven't come across a book this wondrous, magnificent and lovely in a long time.

In some ways Kate and Sean reminded me of some of Susan Cooper's characters in The Dark is Rising series, and since that is one of my all-time favorite series, that is high praise indeed.

I loved the twist of the water horse mythology; if indeed it is ;).

I must admit since I hadn't read any reviews of this book and wasn't really paying attention to the awards this year, I didn't know about the Printz Honor or the many starred reviews it received, I didn't know anything about the book.

Somehow, where I don't know, I thought it a another YA post-apocalyptic story.

What a great surprise to find it was a story about horses, both real and myth-based, set in an earlier, but not disclosed time period and full of wonderful yet intense and sparse characters. I devoured this book in one sitting reading it on a Kindle. However, I love it so much that I have to buy a hardback copy to own.

You have to read this book!! It will draw you in, just like the water horses want to draw you into the sea...
