This was a page turner for sure, a story of a young girl Sunshine who only just escapes a Waco-type mass suicide with her three young children in search of her biological father. Although fiction, I found it quite confronting to imagine just how brainwashed she was as the cult had been all she knew.

I liked reading how the character of her step-mother Liesel grew while taking care of the children. It was very much a case of be careful what you wish for as Liesel, who had unsuccessfully tried to fall pregnant, struggled in her new role.

I couldn't get much of a feel for her husband Chris - Sunny's father. I didn't feel that he really developed much as a character. He didn't seem very interested in his daughter or even his wife and was so remote I didn't feel that his character contributed to much of the story.

Without giving away too much, the ending did make me wonder but all in all, I enjoyed this book.
