Being an avid fan of the Vampire Chronicles and spin-offs, and The Mayfair Witches, I went into this book with high expectations. It was just a little bit of a let down by this tale. All in all it was a decent story, I just found myself wishing it would end. It was somewhat redundant in parts, and I found myself rereading sentences because I got bored.

Anne knows how to set the scene. The house is such a wondrous focal point in the book, and its surrounding area. I could picture it, wishing I could step into the book, to step into that house.

Reuben, while a likeable character, there was something lacking. I felt Laura was even more so missing a piece, I guess I assumed she would have been more. Perhaps there will be more in this series, and a chance for these characters to grow. I liked the others, and can see they could have their own stories.

So, I won't give up on this series if there is to be more books, but we'll wait to see.
